With all that 2020 has put us through, this year needs to be different with refreshing trends. Though we celebrate the much-awaited arrival of coronavirus vaccine, the pandemic is not over yet. Sadly, face masks aren’t going anywhere! Trends in 2021 revolve around the new normal, concentrating more on matte formulations and bright eye makeup. While face masks leave us with limited makeup options, hair looks can definitely be in focus.

Hair trends in 2021 are more relaxed, comfortable and fun. In January this month, talking about trends forecast for 2021, Michel Baltazar, Creative Director at Jean-Claude Biguine Salons India, predicted Balayage and tones of brown for hair colour as some of the biggest trends of the year.

With a fresh new take on colour trends, Christina Ponomareva, Creative Director at Jean-Claude Biguine Salons India, says “The biggest hair colours for this year will be vibrant and colourful like red, purple, and copper red.” However, she’s also of the same opinion that balayage in natural, honey, and ash blonde shades will still trend in 2021.

Summer Wedding Hair Colour Trends
While brides today do not need to conform to any mandates for their beauty looks, experts believe vibrant hair colours will take over the wedding mood this year. “Either go for natural colours with or without balayage, or opt for vibrant colours like mahogany and mocha red, whichever shade suits your skin tone the best. Also, I strongly recommend to keep the choice of wedding outfits and one’s own personality in mind while opting for a hair colour, it goes a long way in framing the look,” adds Christina.

Hair Colour Care Tips
The frequency of hair wash increases in summers as the hair gets greasy quite quickly due to humidity and heat. This results in bleeding of hair colour much faster than expected. “Use only colour-protecting shampoo, conditioner, and hair mask for at least three weeks and then alternate it with your regular shampoo. Do not step out in the sun with hair oil on, it fades the hair colour faster. Cover your with a hat or bandana and keep it well-hydrated to prolong the stay of the hair colour,” says Christina.

Preferred Treatments for Coloured Hair
While you can use colour-protecting leave-on serums and oils post the colour service, Christina advises to go for a hair spa before the colour service to improve the hydration of hair and scalp. “Hair colours last longer and look vibrant on well-hydrated hair. You can slo choose for a hair service or spa that helps improve hair elasticity,” says Christina.
